About Us
The Virginia Villages Collective (VVC) is an informal collaboration among Virginia’s Villages. Our mission:
- Increase awareness of the Village model and its benefits
- Promote the development of new Virginia Villages
- Foster the growth and sustainability of existing Villages
- Establish partnerships with other organizations serving older Virginians and their caregivers
Virginia Villages at a Glance
* In 2026: 7 existing Villages in Northern in Northern Virginia; 2 in Eastern Virginia, 5 in Central, West Central
and Valley. Additional planning groups throughout the state are working to launch new Villages.
* Provide services to support older adult independence. In 2025:
- 11 Villages delivered 51,958+ service hours of unskilled assistance by 1,200 volunteers to 2,936 members
- Volunteer hours valued at $1,921,926
- Provided 7,713 volunteer-provided rides to healthcare appointments
- Provided 191,088 volunteer-driven miles (e.g. healthcare, errands, social events)
* Increase engagement and reduce social isolation through opportunities for socialization, engagement and personal interests. Many events were open to the community. In 2025:
- 6,890 people attended social events
- 3,622 people attended educational and cultural activities
- 3,621 people attended wellness programs
* Delayed or reduced the need for professional assistance
* Expand capacity to serve more older Virginians
- Our Villages supplement and complement services and programs of Area Agencies on Aging and other community organizations serving older adults.
Aging Well with Virginia Villages Program
Reducing the Risk of Social Isolation among Older Adults
Aging Well with Virginia Villages Program (AWVV) -- a first-of-its-kind, state-funded program designed to reduce the public health risk of social isolation among older adults.
AWVV's Goal:
Reduce the public health risk of social isolation by enabling more older Virginians to benefit from the connections and services that Villages provide
How are we achieving the goal?
1) Starting new Villages in Virginia with a focus on communities that currently do not have Villages
2) Enhancing the service capacity and growth of existing Villages through grants for programs that reduce social isolation
During AWVV’s first year in FY2026, 11 Virginia Villages received grants totaling $115,000 for a range of projects to reduce social isolation among older adults. Six planning groups currently are enrolled in a structured training and coaching program. An independent third-party evaluation is underway to assess the outcomes and impact of the program.
In June 2026, AWVV received a second year of funding from the Virginia General Assembly. AWVV is managed by the Virginia Villages Collective. Washington Area Villages Exchange is the fiscal sponsor. Please see our AWVV Press Release for more information.
