The Washington Area Villages Exchange (WAVE) is a forum through which nonprofit villages in the Washington D.C metropolitan area share experience and ideas. It works with senior serving and inter-generational organizations and agencies, and encourages the growth and improvement of the village movement within the Washington area.
WAVE has quarterly meetings hosted by member organizations on a rotating basis in the three jurisdictions. The meeting include speaker covering a topic of interest to the member organizations with time for questions (several recent topics are listed below). After the main presentation, specific time is provided for a couple of concurrent discussion groups focusing on areas of interest to member villages.

Montgomery County Seeks Resident Help with Telephone Scam - Montgomery County Government wants to inform residents about a telephone spoofing scam that is taking place in our area. Several County residents have reported receiving calls from scammers who are fraudulently using County telephone numbers (240-773-xxxx and 240-777-xxxx). While we don't yet know the objectives of the perpetrators, there have been no reports of loss of money, nor personally identifiable information, to date. Click here to read more.
Please enjoy March's updates:
1. Maryland villages Community of Practice meeting - March 23rd:
2. BCC villages quarterly meeting update
BCC villages meet quarterly to discuss shared issues and concerns. This past meeting (which took place on 3.9.15) the conversation focused on ways to share ideas on programming and good speakers. many villages have "in-house" talents who love to speak to their neighbors alone but if you have had a good speaker or a topic that was a smashing success please let me know. I plan to compile a list of ideas so that it can be enjoyed by all.
Another topic covered was working with local hospitals. If your village is interested in learning more about this particular subject, please call me.
3. WAVE meeting April 26th
The next WAVE meeting will be held at BCC Regional Service Center 9:30-12:00. The presenters will talk about villages working with local hospitals.
for more information, please visit WAVE website: http://www.wavevillages.org/index.php/meetings
4. Website changes:
If you have not visited the County's village website you may want to check it out. I have recently changed it and added more content. For example, with the help of my wonderful intern and volunteer we have developed an interactive map of County villages. Please visit the website, try out the map and let me know what you think. In addition, I have placed some photos from Silver Spring Village and Little Falls Village. If you would like your village to be represented, send me your photos (after each person in it have given their permission!). Also, I have created an easy URL to share, so please update it on your website (or add it if you have not done so yet) montgomerycountymd.gov/village
5. Village Gathering May12th 2015 9am-2pm @ White Oak Community Center
I will not stop harassing you with this event until May 12th. Please RSVP and spread the word. We are developing workshops based on the great feedback we got from the survey in February. Here is the list of workshops:
The flyer is attached. Feel free to print it. Also, I have a tab on the website with information about the event.
6. Ethic Committee at IONA
At times your board or volunteers may encounter an ethical issue. for example, you may struggle with a person who is facing challenges that he does not want to let his children know about or share it with anyone and keeps saying everything is fine. How do you manage the conflict between their need for privacy and confidentially and the risk involved?
7. Save the date: April 16th: National Healthcare Decision Day
On April 16, the Montgomery County Coalition on End of Life Care is sponsoring a free program, open to the public, in honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day (www.nhdd.org). It will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Center and will feature the documentary film, "Consider the Conversation" (www.considertheconversation.org), followed by a panel of experts. You do not need to RSVP to this event. Alternatively, you may want to organize your own event that day.
